Crafting to relax

It’s week 7 of the school holidays here in sunny Spain. It’s been a bit of a busy start to the holidays for me. I’ve done lots of DIY and tidying up in the house and garden (separate post for details on what I’ve been doing).

I’ve also had family and friends over visiting so I’ve not really had time for ME.

As there’s only 2 weeks left of the holidays before school starts I decided to get back to doing something I’ve always enjoyed and which helps me to relax, knitting.

I’ve always loved knitting toys and used to do it often in years gone by.

An author friend of mine, Leanne Marshall, designs knitted toy patterns, in between writing books, and I’ve knitted several of her patterns in the past. The latest one being a mermaid doll.

She asked me to trial the pattern for her.

After getting the knitting bug back I asked Leanne to design an elephant for me (I’m a bit of an elephant lover) and wanted something unique.

Using Leanne’s pattern, and 2 days of my time, I finished Nella today.

With a name like Nella I felt she needed to look a little more feminine, so I added eyelashes and blusher.

Thank you so much, Leanne. I love her. She will take pride of place at my computer desk, where during term time I spend most of my time.

I will be doing more knitting and crocheting from now on as it’s the one thing, apart from reading, that I really enjoy, and use as a means to destress after teaching little humans all day long.

I will, no doubt, also be trialing more of Leanne’s patterns in the future, so watch this space.

We also have a Facebook group for all you knitting, crocheting and sewing addicts where we often share our work and links to free patterns. Click the link and take a look. Join in the fun if you want.

That’s all for now.
